• Last Friday night my girlfriend single-handedly chased two guys down the street with mace after one of them randomly punched her in the back of the head. This is the second time she’s chased down a would-be attacker in the city. I’m so never fucking with her.
• Since Thanksgiving I've been volunteering three hours a week at a soup kitchen, after discussing with my students the importance of not just saying what you’re thankful for, but rather consistently showing that you’re thankful. I’ll admit it’s not the most fun thing, but I’m meeting a lot of cool people and I have way too much to be thankful for to have neglected this for so long.
• On a similar note, I was accepted to volunteer at an orphanage in Nairobi for most of July, with a little time left over to do more touristy things like a safari and perhaps a trek to see some mountain gorillas. For Spring Break I’m backpacking through Denmark, Sweden, and possibly Norway to meet up with friends and see if Scandinavia’s the political, social, and environmental paradise I want to believe it is.
• I must be the only person, but I adore this cold weather: something about it is so invigorating. As always I’ll get tired of it by February, but for now…give me some ice and snow!
• I'm slowly shifting this blog to facebook. I like that on the latter I can have a wider audience while also having more control over who sees it (it kinda weirds me out how many of my exes know about this). So if I don’t already have you on facebook and you want to keep exchanging entries, message me your email or somethin’!
• It amazes me how many people have no work ethic. I spend a lot of time planning field trips, creating interactive activities & Power Points, and even writing the occasional educational song on the guitar...and I enjoy doing it. But I’m disgusted when other teachers assume that my work is just up for grabs--especially people who do nothing but socialize during planning sessions, then leech off what everybody else did. Teachers are some of the biggest hypocrites in the world.
...Fingers crossed they’re better in Copenhagen :)
